What are Bots? What do they do?

Bots are scripts / programs that help out in chat.

With monitoring the Website, Twitter, Streams, FaceBook, and all the stuff we do here, we can use a helping hand with chat.

The bots help in so many ways. They monitor every one coming and going. They monitor every single word in chat. They watch for commands. They keep track and do things a human never could. They do this 24/7 365. They never sleep, never take a break to eat, and are always active in chat.

There are two sets of Bots. Ustream's Bots and our own.

Ustream-bot

(This bot can be turned on and off as needed)

This bot can...

lock the channel so the non-registered chatters can't type in chat. (ustreamer-xxxx)

lock the channel so non-registered chatters can't type or see chat.

censor bad words and censor links. (censor word list is unknown)

set the channel topic.

take away a single chatters ability to type in chat but, still allow them to view chat.

pause chat.

can be commanded to ban a chatter and hold a list of these chatters.

Ustream-bot2

(This bot can NOT be controlled. All the numbered bots are special chat protection bots that only join a chat when some sort of threat is detected. For example, it might join when following a user suspected of spamming malware or unsolicited commercial messages. Or it might have been alerted to possible hacking attempts or threatening language which was blocked by the chat servers or detected by Ustream-Bot. Once positively confirmed that any suspected users are up to no good, it'll quietly ban them, and move on, leaving our chat.)

We do know it will ban for certain words. If it detects a certain word it will quietly ban you on the Ustream server itself. We have no control over this and can not fix it. You will have to email: chatadmin@ustream.tv

Even if you copy a Tweet and paste it to the channel chat which has a (ban word in it) This bot will ban you.

Our Bots... (They have many names. Names are changed from time to time.)

Kick / Ban / Commands / Keywords

Kicks:

We add a list of words we think can be abused. They are set to kick only. We know some words many be debatable but there is not always a human here to judge the way the words are being used. List of words below....

Example:

1.) I went to the zoo and seen the cutest ape!

2.) Look at that MFing Black Ape! Someone needs to knock his azz out!

(Now on the second one... if there is no Mod around, then this can become a problem in chat.)

The bot can NOT tell how you are using the word. It just knows to kick the person who said it as it is a possibility the person is using it in a bad way.

The list is fluid. We try to adjust it as needed. Any suggestions are welcome.

If flood is on; chatters will be kicked for posting more than 3 lines of text in 5 seconds.

Bans:

Bans can be for many reasons. The Bots can and will auto ban for various reasons or they can be done manually by a Mod.

Commands:

The bots can be set to do various things on command. These can be various keywords or actions. Depends on who's Bot it is and who set it up.

Example:

Current name - BumbleBee__

Has keywords set to post information. Helps with not having to type it and easier for everyone to call the information up when needed.

Some are just for fun to pass the time. Keep chat in high spirits.

!chatname - Private Messages the chat's name (for use with manual entry of IRC commands.)

!topic - Sets the "topic" of your chat room, which shows up at the top of the chat room and is typically used to indicate what the topic of discussion is at that time. You can set this as follows: i.e. !topic Discussing the finer things in life right now.

!ban username time - Bans a specific user for a certain amount of time. Time is set in seconds. If you don't put any number, it will ban the user for 5 minutes (300 seconds.) i.e. !ban Jack23415

!op username - Gives moderator status to the specified user.

!unop username - Removes moderator status from the specified user.

!voice username - Promotes the specified user to viewer status if he/she is a guest.

!devoice username - Demotes the specified user to guest status if he/she is a "Viewer". This will prevent the user from being able to speak in the chat room unless you have changed your chat room settings to allow guests to speak.

!botoff - Deactivate the bot. (It won't automatically kick or ban users for language.)

!boton - Reactivate the bot.
